Sentinel Protects Dogs From Heartworm And Other Worms
Sentinel flavor tabs are a medicine made by Novartis that has
been designed to help protect your dog against heartworm, a
potentially deadly parasite that all dogs should be tested for.
Your vet should perform a heartworm test before you give this
product to your dog, but after the tests have been done then
it is usually safe to begin giving the medicine to your dog
once a month. Heartworms can be transmitted via fleas, so this
is a widespread parasite that is important to protect your dog
from.
Sentinel contains the drug Lufenuron which is a type of drug
known as an 'insect growth regulator' or IGR. You will need
a prescription from your dog's veterinarian for this product.
That means that once the medicine has been digested by your
dog, whenever fleas feed on him or her, the eggs they produce
will not hatch. However, Sentinel is not meant to kill adult
fleas, it only stops flea eggs from developing.
In addition to killing heartworms and flea eggs, Sentinel is
able to control whipworms, hookworms and roundworms. Each of
these are significant parasites that can cause health problems
for your dog, so fighting them is important for its health.
Some of these parasites can also be transmitted to humans and
cause problems with human health, as well.
Sentinel flavor tabs can be given to dogs and even puppies
that are at least 4 weeks of age. By acting early in a puppy's
life, many health issues can be avoided that are associated
not only with heartworm disease, but with the health issues
that are brought into a dog's life by parasites that feed on
them. Sentinel is one of the most trusted brands in dog medications
today, prescribed widely in the field of veterinary medicine
for dogs of all types.

The pet should be tested for heartworm disease before starting
this medication. If the pet has been off heartworm preventative
for 6 months or more, retest in 6 months since microfilaria,
that take 6 months to mature, will cause a positive test result.
Because humans can contract hookworm and roundworm from animals
it is important to maintain good personal hygiene. It is also
